COMMUNITY GARDENS
Downtown “Urban” Garden Project
Our organization currently manages one community garden located in downtown urban Beaufort. Our community garden program allows The Trust to connect with residents by give them access to fresh, nutritious food, and provides numerous educational and environmental experiences. While our organization strives to serve all of Beaufort County, we currently only have two community gardens- one located in downtown urban Beaufort and the second one on St. Helena Island. The rewards of expanding our community garden program are many. Perhaps the most important benefit is the opportunity for residents to work side-by-side, utilizing gardens as extraordinary places for learning and laying the foundation of a connected, conscious, sustainable community for friends, neighbors, and future generations. Our community gardens are for everyone to enjoy – a place to relax and connect with nature.
Our community garden is featured in the Lowcountry Weekly article, “A New/Old Kind of Green”.
St. Helena “Rural” Garden Project
The St. Helena Community Farm mission: to grow food in a sustainable manner – a model for lifestyle and livelihood – for a population in desperate need of food security. The Community Farm will provide healthy, whole, local produce, and the knowledge to bring sustainable food production back into our schools, our homes, and our community. This farm will not only put fresh produce on the plates of those in need, but it will serve as a tool to teach our youth, allowing the community to invest time in the farm, and see how they can grow on their own land. This farm will produce more than produce; it will be the beginning of a new cycle of hope, health and well-being.
